The project covered the design of an anchorage system for seismic and wind bracing of a new cooling tower to replace the existing cooling tower located at the roof level. Steel beams spanning between and anchored to existing concrete walls were used to form a frame to brace the top of the cooling tower. Plates were welded to the steel frame and positioned as little distance away as possible from the frame will be used to act as “stoppers” to prevent the cooling tower from tilting. In addition, anchor bolts were used at the base of the cooling tower frames to resist the sliding forces generated by wind and seismic lateral forces.
